Reading 1 A Reading from the Book of Prophet Isaiah 55:6-9
Seek the LORD while he may be found,
call him while he is near.
Let the scoundrel forsake his way,
and the wicked his thoughts;
let him turn to the LORD for mercy;
to our God, who is generous in forgiving.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD.
As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so high are my ways above your ways
and my thoughts above your thoughts.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 145:2-3, 8-9, 17-18
R. The Lord is near to all who call upon him.
Every day will I bless you,
and I will praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD and highly to be praised;

The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and of great kindness.
The LORD is good to all
and compassionate toward all his works.

Reading 2: A Reading from the Letter of Philippians 1:20c-24, 27a
Brothers and sisters:
Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
For to me life is Christ, and death is gain.
If I go on living in the flesh,
that means fruitful labor for me.
And I do not know which I shall choose.
I am caught between the two.
I long to depart this life and be with Christ,
for that is far better.
Yet that I remain in the flesh
is more necessary for your benefit.
Only, conduct yourselves in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ.

Gospel: A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 20:1-16a
Jesus told his disciples this parable:
"The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner
who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard.
After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage,
he sent them into his vineyard.
Going out about nine o'clock,
the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
and he said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard,
and I will give you what is just.'
So they went off.
And he went out again around noon,
and around three o'clock, and did likewise.
Going out about five o'clock,
the landowner found others standing around, and said to them,
'Why do you stand here idle all day?'
They answered, 'Because no one has hired us.'
He said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard.'
When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,
'Summon the laborers and give them their pay,
beginning with the last and ending with the first.'
When those who had started about five o'clock came,
each received the usual daily wage.
So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more,
but each of them also got the usual wage.
And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying,
'These last ones worked only one hour,
and you have made them equal to us,
who bore the day's burden and the heat.'
He said to one of them in reply,
'My friend, I am not cheating you.
Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage?
Take what is yours and go.
What if I wish to give this last one the same as you?
Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money?
Are you envious because I am generous?'
Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last."

Primera lectura Lectura del Libro de Isaίas 55, 6-9
Busquen al Señor mientras lo pueden encontrar,
invóquenlo mientras está cerca;
que el malvado abandone su camino,
y el criminal sus planes;
que regrese al Señor, y él tendrá piedad;
a nuestro Dios, que es rico en perdón.
Mis pensamientos no son los pensamientos de ustedes,
sus caminos no son mis caminos, dice el Señor.
Porque así como aventajan los cielos a la tierra,
así aventajan mis caminos a los de ustedes
y mis pensamientos a sus pensamientos''.

Salmo Responsorial: Salmo 144, 2-3. 8-9. 17-18
R.Bendeciré al Señor eternamente.
Un día tras otro bendeciré tu nombre
y no cesará mi boca de alabarte.
Muy digno de alabanza es el Señor,
por ser su grandeza incalculable.
R.Bendeciré al Señor eternamente.
El Señor es compasivo y misericordioso,
lento para enojarse y generoso para perdonar.
Bueno es el Señor para con todos
y su amor se extiende a todas sus creaturas.

Siempre es justo el Señor en sus designios
y están llenas de amor todas sus obras.
No está lejos de aquellos que lo buscan;
muy cerca está el Señor, de quien lo invoca.

Segunda lectura: Lectura de la primera carta del apóstol pablo a los Filipenses (1, 20-24. 27)
Hermanos: Ya sea por mi vida, ya sea por mi muerte, Cristo será glorificado en mí. Porque para mí, la vida es Cristo, y la muerte, una ganancia. Pero si el continuar viviendo en este mundo me permite trabajar todavía con fruto, no sabría yo qué elegir.
Me hacen fuerza ambas cosas: por una parte, el deseo de morir y estar con Cristo, lo cual, ciertamente, es con mucho lo mejor; y por la otra, el de permanecer en vida, porque esto es necesario para el bien de ustedes. Por lo que a ustedes toca, lleven una vida digna del Evangelio de Cristo.

Evangelio: Lectura del santo evangelio según San Mateo 20, 1-16
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos esta parábola: "El Reino de los cielos es semejante a un propietario que, al amanecer, salió a contratar trabajadores para su viña. Después de quedar con ellos en pagarles un denario por día, los mandó a su viña. Salió otra vez a media mañana, vio a unos que estaban ociosos en la plaza y les dijo: 'Vayan también ustedes a mi viña y les pagaré lo que sea justo'. Salió de nuevo a medio día y a media tarde e hizo lo mismo.
Por último, salió también al caer la tarde y encontró todavía a otros que estaban en la plaza y les dijo: '¿Por qué han estado aquí todo el día sin trabajar?' Ellos le respondieron: 'Porque nadie nos ha contratado'. Él les dijo: 'Vayan también ustedes a mi viña'.
Al atardecer, el dueño de la viña dijo a su administrador: 'Llama a los trabajadores y págales su jornal, comenzando por los últimos hasta que llegues a los primeros'. Se acercaron, pues, los que habían llegado al caer la tarde y recibieron un denario cada uno.
Cuando les llegó su turno a los primeros, creyeron que recibirían más; pero también ellos recibieron un denario cada uno. Al recibirlo, comenzaron a reclamarle al propietario, diciéndole: 'Esos que llegaron al último sólo trabajaron una hora, y sin embargo, les pagas lo mismo que a nosotros, que soportamos el peso del día y del calor'.
Pero él respondió a uno de ellos: 'Amigo, yo no te hago ninguna injusticia. ¿Acaso no quedamos en que te pagaría un denario? Toma, pues, lo tuyo y vete. Yo quiero darle al que llegó al último lo mismo que a ti. ¿Qué no puedo hacer con lo mío lo que yo quiero? ¿O vas a tenerme rencor porque yo soy bueno?'
De igual manera, los últimos serán los primeros, y los primeros, los últimos''.
